Lodging At Grey Cliffs

Situated at the heart of the 5,200 acres Grey Cliffs Ranch, tucked away in the rolling hills, and overlooking trout-filled waters and high mountain peaks, the Lodge at Grey Cliffs Ranch offers anglers a truly authentic and unique lodging experience. While only a short 40 minute drive from downtown Bozeman, city life feels worlds away. The lodge is best described as luxurious and spacious, yet intimate and comfortable all in one of Montana’s most beautiful settings.

General manager and host Chris Pfadt provides guests with great service and works to build a family atmosphere at the lodge where anglers can expect great food, great fishing, and great lodging. The ranch offers lots of activities for post-fishing or the non-anglers in your group including sporting clay shooting, hiking, horse-back rides, pottery lessons, and tours of this working ranch. Guests can expect daily run-ins with wildlife, blue-ribbon fly fishing, and a truly “all-inclusive” experience at the Grey Cliffs Ranch.

Lodging and Dining:

The Lodge at Grey Cliffs features four one-bedroom guest suites, along with one two-room suite. Each is well appointed, with magnificent views, private baths, and tasteful décor. The one-room suites also include French doors opening to an outdoor patio for fresh mountain air and a glimpse of the surroundings. Larger groups and anglers that value privacy have the option of renting the whole lodge for a fixed rate.

Guests are welcome to gather in the great room where they can enjoy a roaring fire and unlimited Montana views or in the family room, complete with a television, fireplace, kitchenette, workstation, and game table. Wireless internet is available throughout the lodge. The grand deck off the main floor includes an ideal setting for outdoor dining and covered patios, with a hot tub below for outdoor soaking.

Dining is best described as Montana-gourmet and guests can expect a full breakfast made with Grey Cliffs Ranch eggs, a hardy packed lunch to go, and a gourmet dinner prepared by the in-house chef, utilizing the freshest local ingredients and accommodating any special dietary needs. A ¼ acre organic garden allows their chef access to fresh produce and flowers, chickens are raised on the property, and their own beehive colony produces fresh honey. Guests are always welcome at the in-house saloon that stocks a premium bar and great wine list for all of their beverage needs.

Fishing:

The Grey Cliffs Ranch is located in the heart of Montana trout country and offers anglers access to many of our best blue ribbon waters. The Madison River is just a short 5-minute drive from the entrance to the ranch and is a staple part of any fly fishing trip to the Grey Cliffs Ranch. Anglers fishing the Madison River can expect consistently good fishing for wild trout from April through the end of October with primetime being mid-June to mid-September.

Thick hatches of mayflies, caddisflies, stoneflies, terrestrials and more make the Madison River one of the most dynamic trout fisheries in the state of Montana, and is well suited for seasoned and novice anglers alike. The Grey Cliffs Ranch is situated near the lower end of the Madison River that is known for its remote setting, trophy-sized brown trout, and is a favorite float of many of our guests staying at the lodge.

Our custom outfitting program allows our anglers staying at the Grey Cliffs Ranch to enjoy guided fly fishing on other nearby waters. Our guides will pick-up and drop-off guests at the lodge for many of the nearby options including the Madison, Jefferson and Gallatin Rivers, but we do ask guests wanting to fish rivers further away to meet in Bozeman. There are trout ponds at the ranch that guests are welcome to fish during their stay.
