Montana is Open for Travel 6/1/2020
We are excited to announce that Montana will be open for travel effective 6/1/20. As per Montana Governor Steve Bullock’s recent COVID-19 update and announcement, the existing 14-day self quarantine requirement for out of state travelers will be lifted on the 1st of June. We are looking forward to being back on the water with anglers safely and responsible for the 2020 Montana fly fishing season!

A lot has changed in Bozeman, MT since our last Montana fly fishing report in mid-April. Montana is open for business, COVID-19 cases are under control, and the new life of spring has finally arrived. Things are starting to get back to normal.
May 2020 Montana Fly Fishing Forecast
A lot has changed in Montana over the last month. The fallout of the coronavirus has completely changed the outlook for small businesses, like our own, for the 2020. With so much uncertainty, at least we have some great fly fishing to look forward to in May in Bozeman, MT and on the Missouri River.
Open for Business and Local Trip Specials 4/27/20-5/24/20
We are excited to announce we will be open for business again effective 4/27/20 as allowed for in the Montana state “Re-opening of the Big Sky” phase 1 plan. We will be offering guided fly fishing trips in accordance with the mandated social distancing guidelines, best sanitation practices, and pre-trip screening requirements.

Plenty of solitude on the water in Bozeman, MT. Stay local, stay safe, and go fish. The good news is that the fly fishing has been great on all of our local rivers. The daily rhythm this spring has been nymphing in the morning followed by streamer fishing or dry fly fishing in the afternoon.
April 2020 Montana Fly Fishing Forecast
Things we can count on in April: strong hatches of Blue Winged Olives (BWOs), solitude on the water, and quality dry fly fishing throughout April on our rivers in Bozeman, MT. The BWO hatch is the kick-off to the Montana spring fly fishing season. Anglers will find plenty of rising fish on the Yellowstone River, Madison River, and Missouri River throughout the month on a daily basis.
3/28/2020 Shelter in Place and Guide Trip Update
As of 12:01AM on 3/28/2020 Montana has been issued a directive to shelter in place and a closure of all non-essential business. In accordance with this directive all guided fly fishing trips with the Montana Angling Company will be on hold until 4/10/2020 when the directive expires. We have already reached out to all anglers with trips booked through the end of April so this will not affect any bookings, as alternate arrangements have already been made. If the directive is extended, we will cross that bridge when we get there.
Bozeman, MT Fly Fishing Report 3/9/20
It is feeling like spring on the rivers in Bozeman, MT. Our anglers and fly fishing guides have been enjoying the mild early season conditions and getting into some really great fishing. The Madison River, Gallatin River, and the Missouri River has been particularly productive. High winds, normal for this time of year, have largely kept us off the Yellowstone River but we are looking forwards to getting on it soon.
